Fr Varghese Vavolil

Fr Varghese Vavolil, a priest from the Eparchy of Palghat and incardinated to the Eparchy of St Thomas was born on 21 February 1975 as the fourth son of Varghese and Mariamma at Ezhumatoor -Vaipur, Pathanamthitta, India. The family migrated to Pulappatta Palakkad where he had the school education. He was accepted to join Kallepully Minor Seminary in 1990 by Mar Joseph Irimpen and had his philosophical and theological studies at St Joseph’s Pontifical Seminary, Aluva. He was ordained on 26 December 2001 by Mar Jacob Manathodath, Bishop of Palakkad.

He was then appointed as the Assistant Priest of Holy Spirit Forance Church, Mannarkkad, and parishes of Kaithachira and Pullussery for a year. He was appointed Parish Vicar of St James the Great Church, Dhoni and St Mary’s Church Cherrpulassery, Assistant Director of Catechesis Department (1 year), and Joint Director of Peoples Service Society Palakkad until 2005. He was sent to the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn to serve in the parishes of Archdiocese and as the chaplain for Syro Malabar Community in Canberra in 2005. He was appointed as the Assistant priest of Corpus Christi Parish, Tuggeranong, St Christopher’s Cathedral and St Peter and Paul Old Cathedral Goulburn and Parish Administrator of St Bede’s Braidwood and St Mary’s Bungandore and St Christorpher’s Canberra. He was also appointed as the chaplain and then Parish Vicar of St Alphonsa Parish Canberra from 2006 to 2016. He was appointed as the Parish Vicar and chaplain of St Alphonsa Brisbane North(3months), St Thomas the Apostle, Brisbane South (3 years), St Mary’s Sunshine Coast (3months), St Joseph’s Springfield (3 years), Mary Matha Gold Coast (2 years), and Ave Maria Ipswich (5 years) until 2021. He served as the Catechesis Director of the Eparchy from 2014 to 2019. Currently he is appointed as the Parish Vicar of St Alphonsa Cathedral, Melbourne.
